The specialist at the University of Navarra, Spain, Natalia López Moratalla, warned of the increased frozen human embryos due to multiple fertilizations that are made to search for the best for their development.
The expert specified that assisted fertilization techniques , are not a solution to the difficulty of child-bearing, so it is urgent to rigorous scientific examination of the consequences that may have the application of this technology.
The specialist in Chemical and Biological Sciences warned that the increase in the number of embryos generated by each cycle of fertility is too high and WIN partners are not responsible for their embryos , and clinics do not know what do with them.
“Nobody knows how many lives detention tanks are in assisted reproduction clinics” and to obtain multiple eggs is bad for women (OHSS) and for children born because of the immaturity of the eggs.
In a statement it said that the transfer of three or more eggs is discouraged by the medical community and still will not transfer more than two and better one, the risk posed by multiple pregnancies.
He noted that the proportion of frozen embryos transferred to reach the mother is very small, because 30 years ago and thought it should be for the best, but in reality there is no clear criterion to know or what is the best or how they are.
There are some features indicative, he said, based on morphological and growth rate of the embryo in culture, but subject to a high level of error.
He reported that with regard to the fate of surplus embryos frozen cycle and propose alternatives, such as: save them for possible future use, requiring the legal requirement of parental engagement gestures.
Also, the donation for adoption by another couple, so it is very difficult to accept the parents, because in fact prefer that the child is born to do so within another couple.
Thus, Dr. López Moratalla said the best destination for frozen embryos is their destruction, as he felt that freezing does not make sense.
